You paid on Meesho and the product never came, the refund you were promised didn’t land, or a “Meesho executive” phoned you and money left your account. These are three different problems, and mixing them up wastes time. Here is how to work out which one you have and what to do about it.
Meesho has acknowledged that its name is misused to collect personal information and cheat customers. It advises never sharing bank details such as OTP, UPI or ATM PIN, CVV, or card details with anyone claiming to be a Meesho representative, and asks that misuse of its name be reported to legalsupport@meesho.com.
News reports have described people losing large sums after calling a fake customer-care number found on Google to chase a small refund. Small refund amounts are used deliberately — the low value makes people less careful about who they’re speaking to.
If someone called or messaged you and took money or codes, it’s fraud. If the order itself failed through the app and no one contacted you, it’s a consumer dispute.
Block your card and UPI, and report every unauthorised debit with date, time, and amount. Prompt reporting affects how much protection you get under RBI’s rules.
Report at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930, including the number, any links or APK files, and screenshots.
Complain to the platform’s grievance officer (acknowledgement is due within 48 hours, resolution within one month under the E-Commerce Rules), and call the National Consumer Helpline on 1915.
File on the e-Jagriti portal within two years. You can do this yourself without a lawyer.
If a caller made you install an app, treat the phone as compromised: uninstall the app, disconnect from the internet, and change passwords from another device. Some of these scams use a malicious APK to get remote access to the phone.
| Situation | Route |
|---|---|
| Someone contacted you and took money, OTP, or PIN | Bank + cybercrime.gov.in (fraud) |
| Order never arrived or refund is pending, no one contacted you | Grievance officer, NCH 1915, then consumer commission |
| Offered a 'Meesho job' or reselling scheme that asks for money | Treat as fraud; report to cybercrime.gov.in and Meesho |
No. The helpline, the grievance officer, cybercrime.gov.in, and filing on e-Jagriti as an individual are free or low-cost.
Yes. A lawyer is worth considering only for larger sums or if your bank and the platform both deny responsibility.
